My very own*, very succinct, definition of social capital

A society's social capital is the sum total of all the unselfish acts* that it's members perform.

_____________
* At least I haven't read it anywhere, but I haven't read that much on the topic.
** I'm not sure yet whether this includes acts of enlightened self interest or only altruism.

no zeal left (new zealand) has very little social capital. that is why october 15th 2007 proceeded with virtually no resistance. to have any chance of creating democracy in no zealeftland we need to build such capital
