No Wonder...

...I feel tired.

I just counted; I've sent approximately 65 emails today at work. Only about 5 of them being non work related or non-serious.

Counting the number of emails you have sent in a day is an interesting exercise. It certainly answers a few of those 'where did my day go questions'.

the interesting thing is how we feel compelled to respond to emails as if they have some kind of inherent urgency about them. those of old enough to remember when facsimile machines were new can remember how the same applied then. My coping strategy is to not have my emails open all the time. I have set times during the day when I have outlook open. Also, use emails as a prompt to pick up the phone and talk with the sender - it's much more personal.

Thanks OL, I agree entirely. I have to confess I've never been brave enough to switch off my email for extended lengths of time though...
